Public Services BTEC Subsidiary Level 3

The level 3 course consists of 5 BTEC units (60 Credit) covering a sound understanding for working in the uniformed public services from a theoretical & practical perspective to prepare learners with the knowledge & skills required for progressing into future careers such as Police Officer and Armed Forces Solider. Public services alongside the theory written work has an active based program with strong links to the Armed and Emergency Services. The Public services team here at Bolton consists of tutors with experience and knowledge of work through-out the services some are ex-police officers and some from a military background. Students have access to cadet programmes, Police, Fire, Army; other voluntary opportunities will be made available in partnership with outside organisations. These voluntary opportunities allow you alongside your course to develop the core competencies that the uniformed public services require.

Name: Public Services BTEC Subsidiary Level 3 Qualification title: Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services (QCF) Qualification type: Assessment Prior to the start of the course your Maths and English will be assessed via a computer assessment. This allows the college to place you into the correct functional skills group and assess if support is required. There are currently no formal examinations on BTEC courses, so learners are assessed using a variety of different methods such as presentations, observations & coursework based IT tasks graded as Pass / Merit / Distinction. Some units have more practical assignments that require you to visit public service facilities and studying activities taking place. There is access to a free weeks residential (limited places) on an army camp that is related to your course and a day's personal development with the Army and RAF. Support is available across college and is assessed on an individual basis. Please bring any support requirement to the attention of tutors as it can have an impact on future career pathways.
