A Level History Duration: 2 Years The study of History is much more than the study of the past. Its study allows for the development of fundamental skills that are transferable to any profession. Employers value the skills developed in the study of History: analysis, reading, debating, thinking, writing and assessing different sources. What will I study? History is a thought-provoking subject which stimulates academic discussion and debate, enabling students to develop and broaden their analytical skills. You will develop an understanding of how the past has been interpreted and represented through the study of political, economic, sociological and archaeological concepts and arguments. The A Level qualification is a full-time course achieved over a two year period. HIS1H: Tsarist Russia, 1855-1964 HIS2M: Wars & Welfare: Britain in Transition, 1906-1957 HIS3: Historical Investigation (non-exam assessment) “Religious change in Tudor times” Entry Requirements Students should hold a minimum of 5 A* - C GCSE grades including Grade C and above at GCSE History. How will I be assessed? Timed examinations. Progression Most people who study History do go on to assume a career path in the subject such as teaching or lecturing. But because History has so many transferable skills, one would be hard pushed to find a profession that doesn't require all or most of them. Many university courses like Law insist on a History "A" Level precisely because of the nature of the skills that are developed. History A Level is a good general academic qualification that is widely respected by both universities and employers.
