Chemistry

UPDATED 20160316 15:11:04

The first part of the course explores the fundamental principles that form the basis of Chemistry. This includes looking at the atomic structure and bonding within compounds in closer detail, solving problems of solutions and gases and researching trends in the Periodic Table. The course also looks at industrial aspects of Chemistry and its application to modern technologies. Analytical techniques are also covered which explores how the structures of compounds are determined. Following on from this, the later modules builds on the principles and applications covered in Year 12. This part of the course focuses on organic synthesis and the more sophisticated techniques used to determine the structure of compounds. The chemistry of transition metals, trends across the Periodic Table and applications of mathematical formulae are also covered in this part of the course.
