Our AS and A-level History courses have been designed to help you understand the significance of historical events, the role of individuals in history and the nature of change overtime. The qualifications will help you to gain a deeper understanding of the past through political, social, economic and cultural perspectives. The engaging topics available will provide you with the knowledge and skills you require to succeed as AS and A-level historians. Modules & Assessment are: Tsarist and Communist Russia, 1855-1964 This option allows you to study in breadth issues of change, continuity, cause and consequence in this period through the following key questions: How was Russia governed and how did political authority change & develop? Why did opposition develop and how effective was it? How and with what results did the economy develop and change? What was the extent of social and cultural change? How important were ideas and ideology? How important was the role of individuals and groups; how were they affected by developments? The Making of Modern Britain, 1951-2007: This option provides for the study in depth of the key political, economic, social and international changes which helped to mould Britain in the second half of the 20th century. It explores concepts such as government and opposition, class, social division and cultural change. It encourages you to reflect on Britain's changing place in the world as well as the interrelationship between political policies, economic developments and political survival. Coursework: This will centre on a 100 year study of the Ireland from 1801 -1922. Here you will be given the opportunity to focus on key turning points and track political, economic and social developments over time. There will be lots of opportunities for extracurricular activitieg,including a possible trip to Russia, Belfast and study courses in London.
