Geography looks at a world in constant change. It engages with the relationship of human populations to each other over space and time and their relationship with their physical environment at a variety of scales from the local to the global. Geography is a diverse arts/science subject. The main topics studied reflect this: The water and carbon cycles (Year 1 AS & A) This will focus on the major stores of water and carbon at or near the Earth's surface. These are major elements in the natural environment and understanding them is fundamental to many aspects of physical geography. A one day fieldtrip to Alyn Valley takes place in early Autumn. Contemporary urban environments (Year 1 AS & A) looks at urban growth and change which present significant environmental and social challenges for human populations. Topics such as environmental sustainability feature here. This includes a fieldtrip to Liverpool's urban areas. Global systems and global governance. (Yr. 1 AS & A) The focus here is globalisation - the economic, political and social changes associated with technological and other driving forces which have been a key feature of the global economy and society in recent decades. You will study both international trade and world affairs as well as things shared by the world as a whole, such as Antarctica.
