The course is designed to provide a balance across a range of practical activities that will inform your academic understanding. It combines the activities of exploring plays, creating theatre, the performing of plays, the analysis of theatre and the critical evaluation of all of these elements. Communication, presentational, research, time management, management, leadership and team-working are all skills that will be developed during the course, in addition to critical, analytical and evaluative writing abilities.

Name: Drama & Theatre Studies Qualification title: GCE AS Level in Drama and Theatre Studies Qualification type: Assessment Year 12: • Component 1: Exploration and Performance Practical (60%) Group performance, monologue or dualogue and written portfolio. • Component 2: Theatre Makers in Practice (40%) 1 hour 45 minute written examination Year 13: • Component 1: Devising a piece of original theatre (40%) • Component 2: Text in Performance (20%) Group performance of one key extract from a specific play and a monologue/duologue performance to a visiting examiner. • Component 3: (40%) 2 hr 30 min written exam including live theatre review, play extracts studied along with theatre practitioner techniques.
