UPDATED 20160809 10:30:10

AS (Year 12) and A2 (Year 13): The AS and A-Level Media Studies course is an interesting and challenging learning programme that will develop students’ practical and critical skills. It involves the analysis of media texts such as films, television, newspapers, magazines, broadcast audio and digital media, as well as discussion of the industries that produce them and the way that audiences consume them. To achieve highly in the course it is essential that you have the following qualities: • A critical interest in the media texts that you and your peers enjoy watching, reading, listening to and experiencing. • A mature attitude to media texts that are sometimes difficult, challenging and controversial. • An openness to learning new practical skills such as planning, capturing, editing and producing your own media texts. You will need to be able to communicate effectively and accurately in both written essays and production work, which will involve you creating media texts such as short films, printed products, broadcast audio or digital media. Students must submit a number of coursework productions for both AS and A2 and the deadlines for these will be at the end of Autumn and Spring terms in each year respectively. You will be expected to analyse and confidently comment in depth on a wide range of media texts and to relate them to the industries that produced them. Perhaps most significantly of all, you will need to be able to put yourself into the position occupied by a range of audiences.
