Do you want a career that makes a difference to peoples' lives? Are you interested in working with people from different backgrounds? Do you want to improve your care and communication skills? Have you thought about working in areas such as child care, education, social work, nursing and medicine? If your answer is yes to any of these then you should consider studying Health and Social Care at A level. Students of Health and Social Care will gain a greater awareness and understanding of current issues such as employment, service provision, rights and responsibilities within the work place, and health and wellbeing. Heath and Social Care is a popular A level subject. Last year 50% of year A2 students achieved A*-B for Health and Social Care. During the AS course you will learn how to effectively care for, and communicate with people with different needs such as the elderly, children and people with disabilities. You will also learn about a range of care settings such as hospitals, schools and care homes. You will also learn why some people within society don't receive the help they need, how this can lead to people being treated badly, and how this can also be overcome. This is particularly the case for people that face challenges in everyday life, such as people with mental health challenges and those who are young carers. These aspects are explored in more detail at A2 where the focus is on evaluating different careers within the health and social care sector which have a link to human learning and development.
