The course will look at the way in which the annals were originally created, then duplicated for distribution to monasteries all over the country, and then each acquired its own characteristics. The Chronicles continued in some form until the thirteenth century. Each monastic scribe had his own interest, and these are reflected in the various versions. The writing of the original set of Annals was followed by the creation of a number of copies for a more general distribution. Each Monastery kept them up-to-date insofar as information was available but local differences can be seen between them. In some cases the Annals were continued after the Norman Conquest. Examination of the various texts will show the inter-relations between the monastic scribes, as well as showing what sources of information were available to them.
