This qualification follows the 90 Credit Diploma in IT, the second year of this full time course. The BTEC Extended Diploma in IT is equivalent to three A Levels, just like AS and A2 from one A Level. The second year continues with the 'Business' pathway. You will continue to develop the skills and theoretical knowledge in both hardware and software covering the broadness of the subject of IT. The second year units of study include Developing Computer Games, Computer Animation, Client Side Customisation of Web Pages, Installing and Upgrading Software, Project Planning with IT and Computer Graphics. There are also further 'Core' units of study that include Organisational Systems Security and The Impact of the Use of IT on Business Systems. Learners who continue with the Extended Diploma expand their knowledge base and practical experiences. You will learn about different types of computer game, understand the impact gaming has on society, design, develop and test computer games. You will have an excellent understanding of digital graphic images and be able to create, edit, modify and manipulate digital images of various types and complexity. You will develop the knowledge and skills required to use software techniques to design and implement different types of animation. You will also have an excellent understanding of the processes and tools used for project management, be able to plan a project, follow the plan and review the project management process. This would be an excellent skill to have in any workplace or as preparation for university.
