The course provides training in sustainable land management, and our unique location enables use of the stunning Yorkshire Dales as an outdoor classroom. This Foundation Degree provides an opportunity for learning the essential knowledge and skills required to ensure that the countryside is proactively managed as a working environment, while retaining and enhancing its natural beauty. To be successful you will need to understand the underlying science and be able to apply this knowledge in a range of practical situations. Development of practical skills such as biological surveying and dry stone walling enhance your appreciation of the range of skills needed to manage the countryside effectively. You will also develop professional skills such as report writing and project management. The lecturers delivering the programme share a wealth of environmental and academic expertise, having previously held a variety of positions in the sector. Visiting speakers include senior personnel from organisations such as the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority and the Yorkshire Wildlife Trust allowing students first hand advice on a career in environment conservation.
