"A First Diploma in Engineering is aimed at those who wish to progress to technician roles within the engineering industry, or who wish to develop an understanding of engineering. This qualification is equivalent to four GCSEs graded A-E, if you achieve an overall pass grade or better. The course is designed to: -Provide you with education and training for a selected range of engineering activities -Provide you with an opportunity to achieve a nationally recognised level 2 vocationally specific qualification -Develop skills and knowledge, personal qualities and attitudes that are essential for career development and progression within the engineering industry. Workshop skills are also developed in a number of activities. This qualification is practically based using industry-standard equipment."
