Psychology AS Level

There are 2 units to complete for the AS. For the first unit Psychological Investigations students become familiar with four techniques for collecting/analysing data; these are self-reports experiments observations and correlations. You will be encouraged to conduct your own small investigation at the end of the academic year. For the second unit core studies students will examine 15 core studies within Psychology. These are either classic studies in psychology on topics such as obedience memory child development or studies that raise interesting debates and issues in psychology. Students will need to demonstrate evaluation skills and an appreciation of wider Psychological approaches/perspectives theories issues and debates. Students will also need to make comparisons and distinctions between core studies and examine the broader context of general debates within Psychology. In the second year two further units are studied. The first unit in the second year of the course is focused on the topics of Health and clinical Psychology and Forensic Psychology. Within this unit students will learn about applications of Psychology and how theory is applied in real-life situations. The final unit Approaches and research methods in psychology involves studying a range of perspectives issues methods and debates aspects of research design and implementation.
