The VTCT Level 3 Diploma in Theatre and Media Hair & Make Up (QCF) is a Technical Level qualification that provides you with the knowledge, understanding and skills to work as a make-up artist.The content of this qualification is comprised of all the required elements to enable you to work effectively as a make-up artist, including airbrush make-up for the face, camouflage make-up, fashion and photographic make-up and media make-up. These units are all mandatory. The aim of the course is to make you competent and confident in the skills that theatres and media events require, making you employable within the sector. This qualification leads to a variety of career opportunities to work as a make-up artist, including:- Beauty salons- Independent/self-employed/mobile/home based settings- Theatre, film, print media, photographic studios- National Health Service- Product manufacturing and training- Hospitals/care homes You also have the opportunity to undertake a wide range of optional units to enhance your practical skills in both hair and make-up application/beauty techniques. These include face and body art, Mehdi skin decoration, applying prosthetic pieces, styling and fitting postiche, wig services and fantasy hair design, production arts planning and many more related units. The course involves learning all the related anatomy and physiology that must be understood in support of each practical treatment, the health and safety considerations, client care and communication skills and how to work effectively within a salon, health spa, cruise liner or become self-employed or a make-up artist for theatre, photographic and media events.

The practical and written work is also internally verified by other members of staff as a quality check and then an external verifier from the Awarding Body comes in twice per year to check our systems and procedures. There are continual practical assessments, written assessment questions, internal and external written exams, case studies, and a portfolio of evidence for your practical treatments.
