BA (Hons) in Early Years Education and Practice (Top-Up)

This course is for those students already in employment, and is designed as a top-up to a full Honours Degree, for those who have taken an appropriate level of Higher Education study, such as the Foundation Degree in Early Years Sector Endorsed or a suitable equivalent qualification. Work-based programme with College attendance on one late afternoon/evening per week, plus occasional day workshops. Application will be through UCAS - XL15. Subjects Covered The course requires the completion of 120 credits at Honours Degree Level Level 6. Students will complete four modules and a Dissertation. Perspectives and Influences on Early Years Education 20 credits Students are helped to develop a critical understanding of the historical influences that have impacted upon current early childhood education. Understanding the history and policy development of childhood education contextualises current practice and stimulates reflection upon practice. Leadership and Management 20 credits This module underpins and integrates with other modules on the programme, to provide an understanding of the main roles and functions of management in early years settings. Change management is studied to enable the student to implement future changes within workplace settings. Reflective Practice Portfolio 20 credits Provides students with the opportunity to broaden their own knowledge and understanding of themselves and promotes the use of reflective practice within early years provision. Students are encouraged to become reflective thinkers in order to make informed and logical decisions and to assess the consequences of those decisions in a work place setting.
