The Award in Developing Employability Skills is designed to support learners to develop the essential transferrable skills and attributes that are valued by employers. They are designed to break down barriers for entering the workplace, by building a learner’s confidence to enable them to apply for, secure and sustain employment across a range of sectors. These qualifications are suitable for a variety of learners including: • young people entering the workforce • adults who are looking to return to work • people with special educational needs • people who have English is a second language Units include: ‘Preparing for an interview’, ‘Understanding a Curriculum Vitae’, ‘Understanding job applications’. You don’t need to be working or undertaking a practical placement to take this qualification. However, if the unit entitled ‘Working in the community as a volunteer’ is selected, learners will need to spend a minimum of ten hours in a real work environment as a volunteer. In addition, some units may require Learning Outcomes and Assessment Criteria to be achieved through simulation. This qualification usually runs for twelve weeks. Learners taking the Award can progress onto the Level 1 Certificate in Developing Employability Skills, which will allow learners to build upon their employability skills, through achievement of a wider selection of units.
