Soft Furnishing

This is a guide to soft furnishing and will cover making cushion covers, curtains, applique and blinds. Students will start by making their own cushion with an appliqued design and move on to other projects such as curtains with both tape and hand made headings. There will be an opportunity to learn about interlining and how to make Roman Blinds. The first half of the course will develop student skills by making small samples of different curtain and blind design. As the course progresses, students will choose a window in their own home, learn how to estimate fabric, cut accurately, research design ideas and produce a high quality window dressing. At the end of the course, students will look at different types of simple loose covers. This course is suitable for anyone who has an interest in soft furnishings or who would just like to have a go at something different. It is suitable for complete beginners and there will be an opportunity to work at your own pace. During each session you will be given instruction and observed as you work. You will be able to ask as many questions as you would like and you may take notes as you go.You will be taught by means of practical demonstration and hands on experience.
