Geography will give you the opportunity to learn about physical and human processes operating in a variety of the world environments. This course focuses on contemporary geography, looking at issues facing local and global communities today and in the future.These topics range from glaciation, the world's life support system, dynamic oceans through issues of sovereignty and ownership. These contemporary issues are illustrated by using case studies based on recent current events. If you love finding out about how our world works, what people do and why and how we interact with the environment we live in then this is the course for you. To succeed you need to be inquisitive, motivated, hardworking and be ready to get out of the classroom and find out what is happening in the fieldWe are following the OCR exam board:Year 1Physical geography: Glaciation and Earths Life Support SystemsHuman geography: Changing spaces, Making places and Global Connections. Year 2Exploring OceansEither the Future of Food or Hazardous EarthThere is also a piece of course work worth 20% of the A level courseFieldwork is a key part of geography and as part of the A level you will need to complete 4 days on the field gaining valuable experience on collecting data in the field and experiencing geography outside the class room.We visit North Wales to undertake Glacial Studies and anticipate visiting the oceanography centre as part of the exploring oceans topic. We aim to have an international trip every 2 years, in the past we have been to Morocco and Iceland. We anticipate visiting either Iceland or the bay of Naples.A wide range of teaching styles will be used to enable you to undertake structured questions, essays and fieldwork related questions. Lessons will involve map, photography and data interpretation, powerpoint displays, individual work, group discussion and notetaking. Assessment is by examination techniques
