This is a short course for beginners who wish to learn about computer systems and internet and email.By the end of the course, the learner will understand:* What a file, folder is* Where files and programs are normally stored* Different common file types and their associated icons, eg .doc, .mp3* How to open files and folders* How to move and copy text within a word processed document* How to find and replace text* How to set up tables* How to set a home page in a web browser* How to access browser history* How to use both external and internal search engines* How to create and access bookmarks/favourites* The concept of an online (virtual) community* The term phishing* How to set up and retrieve email attachments* How to add and retrieve addresses from an address book/contact list.Learners are provided with a workbook which contains information and tasks. They record their work in the workbook and answer questions on information to prove their understanding.Learners will produce a portfolio of evidence taken from activities involving the use of contemporary ICT systems.The teaching is tutor led in well equipped rooms with explanations, demonstrations, lectures, question and answer and discussion. Each learner has the use of a computer. The software used for this course will be Windows 7, Microsoft Office 2010 and Internet Explorer Version 7.
