Astronomy - Wonders of the Night Sky - Part 2

Part 2 of this course will extend our understanding of the universe and our place in it. It will seek to give an understanding of how we know the things we do. Topics will include celestial co-ordinates and their use in locating astronomical objects, the relationship of celestial co-ordinates to time and to horizon phenomena, the life-cycle of stars, supernovas, pulsars, quasars and black holes, theories about how the universe began and how it will evolve, cosmic microwave background radiation and the Big Bang, systematic observing of variable stars, lunar grazes and occultations, and meteors. This course is suitable for adults who have attended Part 1 of the course or who have an equivalent level of knowledge/understanding of astronomy/ cosmology.This course will form a strong background for a GCSE Astronomy course.
