Drama & Theatre Studies

UPDATED 20160226 13:22:03

Drama & Theatre Studies is one of the most varied, exciting and challenging A Level subjects. You'll develop skills and confidence that will stand you in good stead whatever your career ambitions. Being a creative, quick thinker and a confident speaker are essential skills in any workplace or career. If you see your future in the creative industry, acting, directing, devising, working as a team, public speaking, these elements of the course will give you plenty of experience and options. Although very practical, the course also has a strong academic base, with opportunities to do research, give presentations and develop your critical and analytical skills both verbally and in your writing. The qualification is designed to enable you to acquire a knowledge and understanding of the language of drama and theatre as well as to develop as an individual performer your analytical skills. You will practically explore plays, create original pieces of theatre, analyse your own work and live productions and learn about the social, historical and cultural contexts of different plays. You'll study two contrasting plays through written coursework and practical work. Theatre Text in Performance is your chance to step into the spotlight and rehearse a play and perform, or be responsible for the production design. You'll work as part of a group to devise, rehearse and perform a brand new play entirely from scratch. You'll also study a classical play text in detail.
