Religious Studies is a course designed to stimulate your intellect and broaden your horizons. On the course, you will develop your ability to produce coherent academic essays, as well as to articulate logical and convincing arguments of your own. Religious Studies, aims to teach you essential academic skills such as analysis, evaluation and critical thinking. Good reading and writing skills are essential ingredients for succeeding on the Religious Studies course. The following topics are indicative of what is studied in A Level Religious Studies: The Religious Studies course is based on investigating morality and ethics from a philosophical and religious perspective. We will explore and investigate ideas about the difference between right and wrong, sources of morality and try to answer some of the Big Questions surrounding human existence. There will be a focus on ethical theories such as Utilitarianism and Natural Moral Law, as well as applying these theories to ethical dilemmas such as IVF and Genetic Engineering. The Second Year units will build on the topics introduced in your First Year, allowing you to develop your skills in preparation for university and beyond.
