Mathematics A-Level

UPDATED 20160704 15:57:25

At the turn of the century, the Times Educational Supplement reported that A-level mathematicians earn, on average, 10% more than those without the qualification! Be amongst the most marketable young people in the country when you finish the Sixth Form at Gloucester Academy with (Edexcel) AS or A2-level Mathematics; whether you continue to further study at University or otherwise. The course picks up from the GCSE without any shocks or surprises and begins to explore deeper and more interesting mathematical ideas that will train your mind to think logically at increasingly complex and abstract levels. This is what gives you the problem-solving mind that is so employable as you embark on a career. Some of the first topics you study on the course are: - Algebra and Functions - Coordinate geometry in the (x, y) plane - Sequences and series - Differentiation and Integration. A-level maths demands a large amount of independent work outside of lessons so it is important to ask yourself... Do I have an inquisitive mind with a natural attention to detail? Am I a motivated learner with good self-discipline to complete set tasks? If so, then A-level maths is for you! The course is examined though a series of modules (3 for the AS, 6 for the full A2). These will be a combination of pure and applied modules usually in decision or statistics.
