Pupils will study GCSE combined science receiving 2 GCSE awards at the end of the course. All specifications contain elements of biology, chemistry and physics. There is an emphasis on the study of scientific skills and understanding. Examples include:- homeostasis and response, inheritance, variation and evolution, chemical changes, chemical analysis, forces, energy. There will also be a significant emphasis on practical work in the investigation of associated theories. Pupils will be taught, as much as possible by subject specialists, so will have two or three teachers. They will be entered for external tests; pupils may be entered for foundation or higher tier tests. All exams will be sat at the end of the year but the number and length depend on the exam board. There are 16 required practicals (although we will carry out more than this). 15% of the exam questions will be based upon the required practicals.
