Students will study 7 units of work during the year. Unit 1 Patterns of Child Development In this unit students will understand the growth and development of a child from birth to eight years and identify how adults in early years settings can support children's development. Unit 2 Promoting Children's Development Through Play This unit investigates how play promotes children's development in early years settings. Unit 3 the Principles of Early Years Practice In this unit students identify the importance of inclusive practice and explore ways in which it is implemented in early years settings. Unit 4 Promoting Children's Positive Behaviour Students in this unit will identify factors that affect children's behaviour and understand how adults in early years settings can promote and support children's behaviour. Unit 5 Health and Safety in Early years Settings In this unit students will understand how to prevent accidents and control infection in early years settings. Unit 6 Supporting Children's Language and Literacy Development Students will research how to support children's language, reading and writing development. Unit 7 Making Healthy Food Choices for Children In this unit students will investigate the importance of a balanced diet to meet the nutritional needs of children from birth to eight years and identify how adults can support children's dietary needs.
