In year 12, the students will learn about how a bill becomes an act of parliament, different types of legislation and European Union law. They will also have the opportunity to look at what powers the police have and types of sentences that defendants can face when found guilty of an offence. Year 12 is broken down into two units; G151- 2 hour exam Police Powers Bail and Pre-trial matters The Judiciary Young Offenders Sentencing Barristers and Solicitors Lay Magistrates The Jury System Alternative Dispute Resolution Civil and Criminal Courts Legal Funding G152 - 1 hour exam Influences on Parliament Legislation Delegated Legislation Statutory Interpretation Judicial Precedent European Union Law During their second year studying to A level the students will focus on criminal law, specifically on types of offences such as murder, manslaughter and assault alongside offences against property such as theft and robbery. In addition to this students will be given the opportunity to study the types of defences which are available for example; insanity, automatism and self-defence. Year 13 is broken down into two units G153- 2 hour exam Principles of criminal liability Attempted crimes Offences against the person General defences Non-fatal offences against the person Offences against property G154- 1 hour 30 minute exam Special studies paper
