EDEXCEL - BTEC Diploma in Fine Art - Level 3

UPDATED 20160222 14:39:54

Here in Fine Art each artist is given their own studio space, expert guidance from specialist and practicing Fine Artists and plenty of studio time to develop their talents. This course delivers an essential range of skills needed for fine art painting, drawing, printing and sculpture. Artists have the chance to attend lectures on historical and contemporary art and learn how to write about and discuss art. The Fine Artists are taught how to create outstanding work in oils, acrylic and other painting media, and master a broad range of sculpting, modelling and printmaking techniques, including lino, mono, screen and transfer print and etching. The course is principally concerned with the aspiring artists' ability to generate creative ideas and to use these in the context of their own art work. The first year is exploratory and the artists learn to develop their work through wide exploration of materials, techniques and processes. Within this first year the staff and visiting artists demonstrate all techniques in a series of workshops and gradually the Fine Art students have more time to develop their own work and ideas. The second year focuses on ones own pathway choice. All artists develop a physical and e-portfolio along with their own artist website during this time and are taken through the process of applying to university and opportunities in the creative industries. All artists have the chance to exhibit at the annual NWKC Arts Festival as well as at local and London based exhibitions. On the Fine Art course at NWKC we understand that success is only achieved with real commitment and that this is only possible if the art studios are somewhere the artists feel creative and want to spend time. Many of our artists work in the studios out of lesson time, developing a commitment and portfolio which sets them up excellently for success in higher education and employment.
