GCE A Level in Law

UPDATED 20160218 12:49:30

Law A Level. Law is relevant to everyday life. The law governs our conduct, some behaviour amounts to a crime whereas some actions amount to civil wrongs. Through studying Law you are able to appreciate the differences between Criminal and Civil Law and gain many skills which will help you with other subjects. Communication is an important skill to have and students on the course have enjoyed participating in mock trials in front of an audience who had the final say in assessing which party won the case! Throughout the year you will be involved in a range of activities in the classroom, some of which include role play and problem solving. You do not need an A Level in Law to study it at university but it helps, as it gives you an understanding of topics which greatly assist in appreciating the first areas of Law you tackle at university. The course is taught by a professional team, some of whom has experience of practising Law and can link theory and practice together. The team is very happy to give students individual support to help them reach their full potential. In the first year of the course you will study the English Legal System and learn about Barristers, Solicitors, Judges, Magistrates, Juries, the court structure and police powers. The second unit that you will study is Sources of Law where you will learn about how laws are made, how judges interpret the law, European Law and Judicial Precedent, which is an important principle on which the English Legal System in England and Wales is based.
