AS/A Level Design and Technology: Product Design (3D Design)

During the course you will look at the physical and mechanical properties of a wide range of materials and components so that you can develop an understanding of why they are used in different applications. You will also consider their manufacture, use and disposal. Health and Safety figures highly in the course alongside a range of manufacturing techniques and the relationship between design and manufacture. You can then apply this knowledge to design & manufacture and evaluate a product, communicate your research & evaluation to others.

Entry requirements

You will be asked to pay a studio fee of £40 (which includes your first sketchbook) at the very beginning of your course. This contribution assists with exhibition costs, subsidised trips, use of consumables during workshop sessions (paper, ink, paint, dyes, silkscreen preparation, firing, clay, machinist equipment wear and tear. You will have to pay for materials for projects and final outcomes. Many materials and sketch books are available from the Art Department technicians at subsidised cost. Also Art sales occur on a termly basis. A kit and price list will be made available at the beginning of the course. We suggest you wait until the course starts before purchasing materials.
