Route to Sport & Public Services - Level 1

This qualification is designed to provide you with an introduction to the Sport & Public Services sector, giving you the opportunity to develop basic techniques, allowing you to demonstrate and recognise how Sport & Public Services can open up an exciting and creative career. We run a series of taster session during the year for you to come and have a go at Sport or Public Services to see if this is the right choice for you. Extended Description Sport: You will study the sport and leisure industry and learn about starting work in sport, the healthy body and effective teamwork. You will study units such as: Taking part in exercise and fitness Taking part in sport Investigating body systems Public Services: Experienced tutors with a service background will provide you with the knowledge you'll need to work towards a career in the armed forces and emergency services. Visiting speakers from various areas of the uniformed services will give lectures and provide practical training sessions. You will study units such as: Public service careers Improving health and fitness for entry into the uniformed public services Personal skills for the public services Practical teamwork in the public services It is expected that you would undertake some work experience as part of the course, this is usually in the form of voluntary projects co-ordinated by the tutors. You will also study functional skills in English and maths. Future Opportunities Once you have completed this course, you will be able to go onto study the Level 2 Sport or Public Services course.

There are some costs associated with this course: Textbooks : £15.00 Trips/visits : £30.00 Please note all prices are approximate and may be subject to change You will be expected to wear appropriate sports clothing and footwear for practical sessions. This includes: Trainers Shorts / Tracksuit bottoms T-shirts / Sweatshirt Students are expected to provide their own sportswear and may need to add to the cost of any external trips. Costs will be kept to a minimum and they will be discussed during the course. There is no need to purchase any equipment prior to starting the course. There is financial help available to students depending on your personal circumstances.
