This Foundation Degree is designed for trainee counsellors and to ensure the needs of trainees, service providers and the local community are met as effectively as possible. One of the major strengths of this qualification is the close collaboration between trainers, the College and counselling placement providers. Equally important is the fact that the programme is accredited by the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). You will gain necessary skills, theoretical knowledge, ethical understanding and personal awareness in preparation for starting practice placement with clients. Work-based learning involves understanding agency policies and procedures, and how to work with colleagues as well as clients. Research into counselling outcomes has consistently demonstrated that it is the quality of the relationship between the client and counsellor that has the most profound effect. it is this quality of the relationship - based on a deep knowledge of the self and the other - that lies at the heart of this course. The programme aims to give you: a higher professional qualification at a time when higher qualifications are increasingly required by job specifications in counselling knowledge and understanding of key concepts of core theoretical models, BACP Ethical Framework the opportunity to compare other approaches to counselling and research methodologies the ability to establish an effective therapeutic relationship with clients, including assessment and referral processes the chance to explore use of a variety of counselling skills flexibly and appropriately with individuals and in settings.
