You will study the following units:Level 2Mandatory units:Style and finish hairSet and dress hairCut hair using basic techniquesColour and lighten hairShampoo, condition and treat the hair and scalpDevelop and maintain effectiveness at workAdvise and consult with clients.Optional:Cut mens hair using basic techniquesFulfil salon reception dutiesColour and lighten mens hair.Level 3Mandatory units:Provide hairdressing consultation servicesCreatively style and dress hairCreatively cut hair using a variation of techniquesCreatively colour and lighten hair.Optional:Hair colour correction servicesDevelop and enhance your creative hairdressing skillsContribute to the planning and implementation of promotional activities.Plus additional units for functional skills and Employers Rights and Responsibilities (ERR). You will be based in a hairdressing salon where you will receive real-work experience and training. The hairdressing programme incorporates both college and work-based assessment.

Continual assessment and external tests in functional skills (unless exemptions apply). Exemptions from functional skills include GCSE at grade A -E (if achieved since 2102) in English language, maths or information technology and an interview. The following equipment and protective clothing to be provided by the trainee: A kit containing scissors, a selection of combs and brushes etc. Uniform dress code to be worn will be plum tunic, trousers and black shoes.
