If you are looking for a career in the childcare sector the level 2 Certificate in Children’s Play Learning and Development will give you the opportunity to work in children settings caring for children and give you the underpinning knowledge you will need to succeed in this industry. This programme will offer students the opportunity to gain practical skills and knowledge to develop skills in caring for a child. This programme is great preparation for further learning or training and also supports students’ own personal development. As part of this programme students will also study English and maths GCSE which will be linked to the programme criteria. Our tutors all have specialist industry background, supporting students to link their learning to real life experiences. The Childhood studies team has excellent links with employers in the local community and surrounding counties which builds a highly responsive curriculum meeting the needs of employers. Topics of study include: ◾Patterns of child development ◾Promoting children’s development through play ◾The principles of early years practice ◾Promoting children’s positive behaviour ◾Health and safety in early years settings ◾Introduction to working in the early years sector On our Childcare programmes you will get practical work experience to complement the theory that you learn. You will undertake a minimum of 250 hours of work experience across the academic year. This will include placements in a variety of settings, working with children from different age ranges relating directly to your units of study. We place a huge level of importance on securing beneficial work experience for our students, which allows them to learn in a new environment and put the skills they have gained at college into practice.
