Is this the right course for me? This course is suitable for you if you are new to the sewing machine and want to learn the basics. What will I learn? How to thread up and use a sewing machine How to cut out fabric How to sew and finish seams How to make a well constructed but simple item of your choice. For example, a small bag, container, cushion or decoration in keeping with the season. If time permits, it may also be possible to make a very simple garment During the blocks of 5 week courses we will incorporate basic skills such as putting in zips/button holes/and other fastenings. As your skills develop you may also progress to include learn decorative techniques, how to make pockets, add gathers, piping, pleats, or applique to work. How will I learn? You will learn through tutor guidance, hands on practice and making samples, following info sheet and demonstrations, working at own pace. Will I gain a qualification? You will not gain a formal qualification but you may request a Certificate of Attendance and Achievement from your tutor, to be given out at the end of the course What can I do next?
