Studying history will help you understand the significance of historical events, the role of individuals in history and the nature of change over time. History allows students to gain a deeper understanding of the past through political, social, economic and cultural perspectives. You will examine a breadth study and a depth study in addition to completing an historical enquiry.

Name: History Qualification title: GCE AS Level in History Qualification type: GCE A/AS Level or equivalent Assessment At the end of Year 12 you will sit end of year exams, these will not count towards your final results. There are two final written examinations at A level, together with an 3,000-5,000 word historical investigation that accounts for 20% of your mark. Entry requirements

Recommended texts: Oxford „AQA History for A Level: The British Empire c1857-1967‟ by Webster and Carr (ISBN: 9780198354635) and Hodder Education‟s „Access to History: The American Revolution and the Birth of the USA 1740-1801‟ Second Edition by Farmer (ISBN: 9781471838767). You will need to have an internet enabled device such as a tablet, laptop or notebook. Trips are organised to History conferences relating to the Breadth and Depth studies by university academics in the field of study. These are optional and usually take place in London around Easter time. Estimated cost is £35 per conference including travel.
