Because of your enjoyment and fascination with Mathematics, you may wish to study Mathematics and Further Mathematics. Further Mathematics should be taken with Mathematics (Core and Mechanics) so that over the two years, twelve units in all will be studied to give two A levels. Further Mathematics consists of the study of Pure Mathematics in greater depth and three Application units. The three Further Pure units cover more algebra, complex numbers, differential equations, polar co ordinates, co-ordinate systems, hyperbolic functions, differentiation, integration, numerical methods, matrix algebra, vectors and proof. In Decision Mathematics you will set up models to solve practical problems. Algorithms are used to solve problems such as the “Chinese Postman” problem. In Mechanics you will set up simple models of practical situations in order to study the action of forces on bodies. In many cases this will take the form of a set of equations that will lead to a solution of the problem. Mechanics has a strong link and overlap with Physics.
