Entry Requirements: For external candidates to qualify for this course you must have achieved at least an ‘A’ grade in both the CORE Science AND the Additional Science (if you did the Double Award). KEVIGS pupils need at least an ‘A’ grade in Physics. All students must also have achieved at least a Level 7 in Mathematics at GCSE. What is the course about? The course at King Edward VI aims to provide you with an introduction to Physics and its uses, and to prepare you for possible further study offering: • A broad vision of Physics as it is today; • A simple introduction to the essence of quantum mechanical thinking; • Training in the essential skills of experimentation and data handling, including dealing with uncertainty and systematic error. What will I study for A level? Particle physics, waves and mechanics (movement) in year 12 with an emphasis on practical physics and the skills that are needed for investigations. In year 13 we study electricity, fields, nuclear physics, and a topic called turning points in physics which is about great ideas in physics like relativity. How is the course assessed? Three written papers covering the two year course. An endorsement for practical skills.
