Course Specification: Course Specification: A Level Mathematics – Pearson Edexcel 9MA0 A Level Further Mathematics – (as above and including) Pearson Edexcel 9FM0 Entry Requirements: Mathematics students (9MA0) require Grade 7 or higher at GCSE. Further Maths students (9MA0 and 9FM0) require Grade 8 or 9 at GCSE. What is the course about? The course in Y12 provides a broad base of subjects offering Pure Mathematics and Mechanics. This broad base complements many other A Level subjects but is particularly beneficial to students studying Physics. Students who study the Further Mathematics option will achieve an A Level in Mathematics (7890) at the end of Year 12. Mathematics students receive 8 hours of lesson time per fortnight and Further Mathematics students receive 14 hours per fortnight. What will I study? Pure Mathematics Topics: Algebra, Differentiation, Trigonometry, Sequences and Series, Integration, Indices and Surds, Polynomials, Co-ordinate Geometry and Graphs. Mechanics Topics: Equations of Motion, Friction, Resolving Forces and Momentum. How is the course assessed? Mathematics (7890) Mechanics 1, Core 1 and Core 2 - in Y12 leads to an AS level (3890) Statistics 1, Core 3 and Core 4 - in Y13 leads to an A2 level (7890) Further Mathematics (7892) Statistics 1, Mechanics 1, Core 1, 2, 3 and 4 – in Y12 leads to an A2 level (7890) Further Pure Mathematics 1, and 3, Statistics 2, Mechanics 2 and 3, Discrete 1 in Y13 leads to an A2 level (7890) in Mathematics and an A2 level in Further Mathematics (7892) Each examination in the above units is for 1 hour 30 minutes.
