In choosing Drama & Theatre Studies you will develop your interest in and enjoyment of Drama and Theatre, both as participant and as informed member of an audience, fostering an enthusiasm for and critical appreciation of the subject. We aim to develop understanding and appreciation of the significance of social, cultural and historical influences on the development of Drama and Theatre. You will experience a range of opportunities to develop a variety of dramatic and theatrical skills, enabling you to grow creatively and imaginatively in both devised and scripted work, where you will integrate theory and practice through your understanding of critical concepts and the discriminating use of specialist terminology. You will develop your knowledge and understanding of how performers, designers and directors communicate meaning to an audience together with appropriate vocabulary and specialist terminology for the subject. The course demands practical, creative and communication skills in almost equal measure. You will extend your ability to create drama and theatre, and will also be required to write about drama and to develop your powers of analysis to become an informed critic. The course will involve taking part in drama productions, as well as studying plays and playwrights. It is important to note that the course also involves regular trips to the theatre, some of which will be compulsory.
