The course aims to help students develop an interest in, and enthusiasm for, the Classical World by covering a wide range of aspects of the Greek and Roman worlds. In addition to developing an awareness of the influence of Classical culture on the modern world, it also equips students to apply analytical and evaluative skills to aid them in developing a personal response to the material studied. You will develop a variety of skills and abilities including (among other things): data-analysis; literary analysis; analysis of social, historical, cultural and literary context; evaluation of documentary and material evidence; essay-writing; team-work and comparison of cultures and time-periods. We aim to provide an understanding of a wide range of aspects of the Classical World, literary and archaeological, artistic and historical. It is hoped that there may be a trip to Greece at some stage during the course.
