At GCSE you will have enjoyed problem solving, being innovative and the opportunity to be creative in a variety of materials. You will have managed your coursework well, meeting deadlines and enjoying using your initiative. You should be able to communicate your ideas well through drawings. YOU NEED TO BE A PROBLEM SOLVER. A person who looks at a problem with an open mind and can see countless possibilities for solutions. You will have studied Design and Technology and have achieved success at GCSE level, at least a grade C. You could have studied ANY discipline at GCSE including textiles, graphics, electronics or resistant materials. For A2 you will again study two mandatory units and together with the two units at AS make up the full four unit GCE: Unit 3—Design, Make and Evaluate Students produce a portfolio and product which demonstrate creative thinking, innovation and flair. The coursework will consist of designing, making and evaluating, a marketing presentation and a review and reflection. Unit 4—Product Design Examination Students need to have knowledge of a range of materials. It is designed to build upon knowledge gained from GCSE and AS and not overburden students with large amounts of factual information.
