The course builds upon the knowledge and understanding of GCSE Science. It is expected that students will have achieved a GCSE grade B or above. During the course students will need to be able to communicate effectively and research information from a variety of sources. During parts of the course students will also be expected to handle and interpret data. As a result students are also expected have grade C or above in English and Maths. The A2 course consists of 3 papers: Paper 1 & 2 follow the same format as the AS papers, they are worth 30% each. Paper 1 covers Inorganic and Physical chemistry and Paper 2 covers Organic and Physical chemistry. They are 1 hour and 45 minutes long and consist of 90 marks, 20% or these will be maths skills. Paper 3 is worth 40% of the total qualification, it could cover any part of the specification and will contain questions which assess the practical concepts and the core practicals. It lasts for 2 hours 30 minutes and consists of 120 marks.
