Geology

UPDATED 20161018 11:41:40

Geology examines the form and structure of the earth and the development of life on earth. It introduces the concept of the vastness of geological time, which, together with study of the rock record and fossils, leads to a deeper understanding of the origin of the planet and the significance of life on earth. The course looks at modern and ancient examples to explain how the surface of the earth has been shaped over the millions of years of its history. The course also studies geological hazards and the attempts we can make to reduce their effects. Residential field work (Cornwall, Tenerife) is offered in both years of the course and all students.
