Please note: A Level Media Studies is currently being reformed. All content below is subject to approval and may be altered slightly. Unit 1 – Media Products Students will explore how media products are used by institutions to construct different representations and how media audiences interpret these products. Students will be presented with three unseen media texts and asked to compare them in their exam. In addition, Section B of the exam will enable students to use media theory to analyse and evaluate their own cross-media productions (produced in Unit 3). Unit 2 – Media in a Digital Age Students will explore and analyse the ideas and arguments from debates about the media. To engage in these debates students will investigate various forms of media including: video games, music videos, film and radio. These debates will be drawn from: • a historical perspective • the digital age • global media. Unit 3 – NEA: Making Media This non-examined assessment unit gives students the opportunity to enhance their practical production skills by taking on a project brief that requires them to construct a cross-media production. Some of the proposed briefs include an excerpt from an original talk show, a music video or a sports magazine.
