Studying Economics in the Sixth Form will enable you to gain some understanding of the complex world of business, finance, government economic policy, the international economy and the workings of the EU, the housing market and many other issues that affect our everyday lives. At last you will understand the news: Today the Bank of England raised interest rates by a quarter per cent; They fell by 5% against the dollar. Why? How? What effect will it have? Our aim will be to turn you into a good economist, so that you can use the economists toolkit (theories and models) with confidence to analyse economic issues. You will gain the knowledge and skills that will enable you to contribute thoughtfully and informatively when discussing the state of the country (and impress your friends!) Economics students are expected to take a wider interest in the world of economics, business and finance and keep up to date with current trends through regular reading of quality newspapers, journals and websites. Students wishing to pursue a career in business management, finance or accountancy may find it useful to choose both Economics and Business Studies.
