GCE Art & Design - Photography (A Level)

Over the course of two years you will produce a portfolio of work that will make up 60% of your marks towards your A Level. Throughout the production of the portfolio you will be asked to investigate a variety of themes, techniques and artists/photographers from which to produce a unique final outcome. Initially you will explore a range of basic camera and Photoshop techniques and processes on a given theme. As the course progressess you will be expected to make more independent decisions about the themes and focus of your work as your confidence and experience develops. The remaining 40% of the course will be based on the work produced during the Externally Set Assignment from February onwards in Y13. Simply put, you will be asked to choose a theme form the list proveded by the exam board and develop an independant research project around this. You wil be expected to make a final piece that responds to the initial theme in a 15 hour controlled assessment at the end of which your course will be complete. You need to be a comitted student and be willing to put in extra time and effort to complete work outside of lesson time due to the nature of the work in order to achieve a high grade and acquire a high level of skill.
