This course examines the way language is used in society today. There is much emphasis on the grammatical structure of language, as well as analysis of how certain types of language are used for certain purposes and audiences. At AS, students study a variety of contemporary language and comment on the differences between spoken, written and multimodal texts. Students explore how language choices reflect the identity of the user and how language use varies in context. At A2, students acquire knowledge of language diversity and children’s language development. Students demonstrate their skills as writers, exploring the techniques of a variety of genres in order to produce effective texts for specific genres, audiences and purposes.
