COURSE OVERVIEW – Why study Sociology? If you study Sociology you will acquire knowledge and a critical understanding of contemporary social processes and structures such as gender, social class, race and ethnicity, culture and identity. You will appreciate the significance of theoretical and conceptual issues in sociological debate, understand sociological methodology and a range of research methods but most importantly be given the opportunity to reflect on your own experience of the social world in which you live and develop skills which enhance your ability to participate more effectively in adult life.
