Route H: Democracies in change: Britain and the USA in the twentieth century. The first two units (AS and A Level) will be 1H: Britain transformed, 1918–97 (30%) and 2H.1: The USA, c1920–55: boom, bust and recovery (20%). These units are exam based and cover how Britain and the USA changed dramatically through the twentieth century. This can range from gangsters to Margaret Thatcher: The Cold War to Tony Blair: Jazz music to the Beatles. The AS is sat in Year 12 and the A Level version of the papers in Year 13. Unit 3: Option 35.2: The British experience of warfare, c1790–1918 (30%) This is examined in the second year. It studies the important changes that made Britain into a modern state, through the experience of war and peace, over a period of 100 years. Unit 4: CW40: 20th Century International Relations, 1879-1980 (20%) is the coursework element. The students will produce a developed piece of coursework, looking at crucial international events that helped shape our modern world.
