COURSE OVERVIEW- Why study Politics? 1) Looting on the streets of London 2) Student demonstrations against rising tuition fees 3) Riots over food scarcity in Greece What do these three recent events have in common? They are all demonstrations of politics, collective expressions of discontent, anger or anxiety about the way that society operates and allocates its resources. When you choose to study A Level Politics, you will take a fresh look at the issues of power and conflict and develop a deeper understanding of the meaning of democracy or despotism. In Britain, social conflict is often resolved through voting or pressure groups. However, in other countries violence, terrorism and war are used as decision-making tools. As a Politics student you will use a range of real-life examples to question how and why this happens.
